Roulette can be a fun casino game to play. The outcomes can be rewarding if you get very lucky. To ensure that you get enough profits and fewer losses, it is important that you know about the types of bets in roulette first.

Take a look at the roulette table layout. Observe how the pockets appear and where they are located on the roulette table. You will notice that there are numbers commonly placed inside grids, while there are also slots placed outside of these grids. You can place your bets there as well. Know that the main goal of every variant of roulette is to guess the same number where the ball will land on the wheel.

On a European Roulette, you have a wheel with black and red pockets which have numbers from 1 to 36. If there are 36 number pockets and a single zero slot on European Roulette, the ways how you can place your bets are also as many. Here are the types of the bets in roulette which you need to know:

## Inside bets

Inside bets are the single even/odd numbers from 1 to 36 placed inside grids which appear inside red/black boxes.

### Straight

A straight bet covers only one number. One number pays 35:1. Place the chip on the single number.

• 12
• 17
• 26

### Split

Bet on two numbers which are adjacent on the table. Place the chip on the centre of the two numbers’ shared line.

• 1|2
• 2|5
• 16|17
• 32|33

### Street

Bet on three consecutive numbers which are placed on the same line. Place the chip on the outer corner of the row where the three numbers can be found.

• 1, 2, 3
• 19, 20, 21
• 34, 35, 36

### Six Line

Bet on two adjacent lines, this covers two rows of three numbers.

• 1-6
• 16-21
• 22-27

### Corner / Square

Bet on four numbers. Place the chip on the centre of the shared line where the four numbers meet.

• 1,2, 4, 5
• 29, 30, 32, 33

### Five-Number Bet / Top Line

You make a bet on a specific group of numbers. The payout for top line bets is 6:1. The only numbers you can bet on are:

• 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3.

## Outside Bets

Outside bets are slots which can be found outside the boxes where the single numbers are placed on the roulette table layout.

### Red or Black

You make a bet on the colours of the numbers where the ball will possibly land on the roulette wheel. The numbers will either be marked red or black.

### Odd or Even

• Odd numbers are numbers which end in one, three, five, seven, or nine.
• Even numbers are numbers which end in zero, two, four, six, or eight.

You make a bet on whether the ball will land on an odd number or an even number. This
is marked even and odd on the roulette table.

### 1-18 / Low

You make a bet in hopes that the ball falls on any number within 1 to 18. This is an even-money bet.

### 19-36 / High

You make a bet in hopes that the ball falls on any number within 19-26. This is also an even-money bet.

### Dozens

This type of outside bet covers twelve numbers but in order. Each dozen pays 2:1, or even double your bet.

• 1st twelve – Covers the ball landing on numbers within 1-12.
• 2nd twelve – Covers the ball landing on numbers within 13-24.
• 3rd twelve – Covers the ball landing on numbers 25-36.

### Columns

You bet on a whole column of numbers. Just like dozen outside bets, column outside
bets also pay 2:1, or even double your bet.

• Column one – Covers the ball landing on the numbers 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, 34.
• Column two – Covers the ball landing on the numbers 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, 23, 26, 29, 32, 35.
• Column three – Covers on the ball landing on the numbers 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36.

## Final Bet

• Final bets are made on single zero roulettes, mainly on European and French Roulettes. You make a bet on the last digit of any number which you think the ball will land on.
• For example, you make a “final 4” bet. This means you are betting on all numbers that end in four. Such as 4, 14, 24, and 34.
Make a bet on “final 7”, and you’re betting on numbers that end in seven. Such as 7, 17, and 27.

## Imprisonment Bet

This is most commonly used in French Roulettes. The imprisonment bet derived from the En Prison Roulette Strategy, which is the half-back rule. This means that if the player has an even money bet (red, black, odd, even, 1-18, 19-36) and the ball lands on a zero, the player will get half of what he wagered. This is also similar to the La Partage Roulette Strategy.

## Call Bets / French Bets

Call bets or French bets can only be done on European and French Roulettes. Call bets are usually used by French gamblers. But what makes call bets very interesting and different from the usual bets is because they are called out or announced. This is most common at land casinos because the players don’t need to place their money on the roulette table.

However, in some cases, call bets are illegal in some parts of the world. This is because the gambler wagers on credit. Players typically just declare what they want to bet on instead of placing the chips on the roulette table. Announced bets can be accepted for some situations, such as when there’s a huge crowd enough to surround the roulette table and the player cannot place his chips on the table himself. Call bets are mostly practised at high-roller tables, hence the crowd.

Since you now understand roulette bets more, it is recommended that you practice and then apply what you have just learned first. You can play roulette for free at any online casino without the risk of wagering real money.
